We are delighted that building work is well underway on the site of the new Dundonald International Ice Bowl in East Belfast. This £52 million redevelopment project, supported by significant investment from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, will deliver a state-of-the-art entertainment and leisure centre expected to open in 2027. NUGENT are thrilled to be appointed as MEP contractor, working alongside main construction contractor Heron Bros, on this landmark scheme.
Originally opened in 1986, Dundonald International Ice Bowl has long been a hub for sport and recreation, serving as the training ground for the Belfast Giants and local figure skaters, and hosting world-class events such as the Commonwealth Templin Bowling Centre in 1987. The facility has remained a popular destination for public activities including ice skating, tenpin bowling, and indoor play.
The Ice Bowl will remain open throughout the construction phase, ensuring that families and friends can continue to enjoy its existing amenities until project completion.
Once complete, the redeveloped site will play a key role in driving economic growth across the Lisburn and Castlereagh area, supporting job creation and enhancing regional tourism.
The new facility will feature a wide range of modern amenities, including:
- Olympic-sized ice rink with spectator seating
- 24-lane ten-pin bowling facility
- 100+ station fully equipped gym
- Children’s soft play and adventure play areas
- Party and multi-use community rooms
- Restaurant and coffee shop
- Office and support accommodation
- Parkland with adventure & play areas
This transformation will ensure Dundonald International Ice Bowl continues its legacy as a premier leisure destination while meeting the needs of future generations.
