NUGENT delighted to be on board Brighton College Performing Arts Centre project

Brighton College was founded in 1845 by William Aldwin Soames and was the first independent school to be founded in Sussex. The school entails multiple award winning buildings. In September 1973 the school became co-educational welcoming girls.

The site which is currently occupied by the Lester and Science building is on the school’s conservation area which forms the campus main quadrangle which includes grade II listed buildings.

The new theatre and performing arts centre will entail a 400 seat multifunctional theatre, dance and drama studios, 6^th Form centre, classrooms and open space for gatherings. The building is estimated to be 3,200 square metres of space over 3 floors and a basement.

The school is occupied by girls and boys from age 2 to 18 years. The Independent school has described the new centre as the, ‘grand finale’ as it completes the schools ten year masterplan to redevelop its Kemp Town campus.

The planning was granted in December 2021 by Brighton and Hove City Council’s Planning Committee. The historic school is a well known educational school winning – United Kingdom School of the Decade, in the Sunday Times in 2020.

Pre-Construction Director, Colum Sheppard said, “Brighton College is a highly reputable school whom have won multiple awards. NUGENT are thrilled to be working alongside Main Contractors Gilbert Ash, it will be an exciting project to collaborate together on for the remarkable project”.

The NUGENT MEP team are working behind the scenes before arriving on site in the upcoming weeks. The construction is due to be complete in February 2024.
