National Apprentice Week – Meet Suphachok

National Apprenticeship Week  Monday 6th February – Sunday 12th February

Apprenticeships are an incredible route for students to learn through a hands on learning experience alongside a highly qualified mentor.

We will be highlighting a few of our teams stories this week to encourage students who are considering the apprenticeship route.

Meet Suphachok, 4th year Electrical Apprentice who joined the NUGENT team in November 2019

Suphachok, tell us a bit about yourself

I studied at Ashfield Boys high school. I studied engineering in secondary school which I really enjoyed and that made me realise I wanted to be involved in the construction industry. I study at the Milfield, Belfast Met campus doing the Level 3 Electrotechnical Apprenticeship. I attend site 5 days a week as I am now 4th year within my degree and attend my course once a month.

What made you choose NUGENT for your apprenticeship?

NUGENT have worked on multiple projects and are a well known company therefore I was familiar with the company and work they provide. The pathway NUGENT have created to develop my Electrical skills sounded good and I am glad I chose here for my apprenticeship.

Do you enjoy the apprenticeship route so far and would you recommend the apprenticeship path to other students?

So far I have enjoyed the apprenticeship route and would highly recommend this for other pupils that have an interest in becoming an Electrician. If you are looking to do practical work, I feel this is the best way to work your way up within your career with site experience. A lot of benefits come with an apprenticeship as well.

On a daily basis, what are your day-to-day tasks?

I would do a lot of install work on new builds mainly consisting of all the different types of containment and general appliances and equipment and wiring. I have being working on the Templemore Baths project and it has been great to be involved in the project seeing the difference from start to finish.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

In 5 years I hope to have progressed my career to a higher level with my current employer NUGENT or possibly take the skills which I have gained abroad.
